Indian Wedding Ceremonies- Nuptial

On main day the wedding rituals are performed by priest to finally tie the knot between bride and groom for a life long relationship. The bride and groom encounter each other with exchange of garlands after that all rituals performed inside mandap by priest in presence of all family members and relatives. It involves lot of preparations regarding venue, food, drinks, decorations and music whose responsibilities are handled by separate family members.

Varmala

The varmala ceremony involves the exchange of garlands between bride and groom. Often it is known as Jaimala in some Indian marriage customs.

Mandap

All wedding rituals take place in mandap on main wedding day. The mandap is made of wood or other materials are used to make a four pillar supporting frame with pedestal for sacred fire and sitting arrangements for the bride and groom and all other family members. The priest performs all the rituals.

Main Nuptial Rites:

  1. Kanya Daan: This is considered the most precious and valued custom.
  2. 7 Phere : The long walk of 7 rounds each round symbolizing a promise.
  3. Sindoor Daan: Embossing the bride’s beauty with vermillion as symbol of married life and security.
  4. Aashirwad: Last but not the least comes the time of taking blessing from elders. Bowing and touching elder’s feet and fetching good wishes for happy married life.
