Indian Wedding Ceremony – Haldi

Haldi Ceremony is that one common wedding ceremony among all cultures and society. Haldi ceremony is mostly celebrated by every hindu religion no matter from where they belong from north, west, east or south side, the only difference prevails in manners and customs. Different cultures have different rites for haldi ceremonies like some sections of society celebrate it for 2 days ie day before wedding and on wedding day and some people celebrate it on just the main wedding day.

Haldi( turmeric) ceremony is pre wedding ritual in which haldi paste known as “uptan” is applied on bride and groom’s face, hands and feet by family and friends in their respective homes.

Haldi Day Importance:

  • It is considered as Indian bridal glow cover as it beautifies the skin of bride and groom.
  • This is done to bring a good luck and success in marriage.
  • The ingredients used for preparing haldi paste are considered good for skin.

The Haldi ceremony is followed by singing traditional songs. Its a fun filled ceremony enjoyed by all members of a family.

General Clothing Norm for Haldi Ceremony:

  • On this day bride wear yellow saris.
  • Bride’s can also wear suit and salwar.
  • Groom’s wear white kurta pajama or dhoti.
  • to maintain the decorum of occasion everyone participating mostly wear white or light yellow shade dresses.

Haldi Uptan Preparation:

Items Required:

  • Turmeric powder
  • Rosewater
  • Curd
  • Sandalwood powder

Method:

  • Mix them all part by part to form a fine clot free mixture, its important to maintain proper ratio.
